Up Close And Personal With Two Olympic Families

This is a free, once-a-week (Thursday), email with tips, tricks, hacks and strategies to grow your fitness business now!

Hello ~Contact.FirstName~,

I am blessed to know two families participating in the Winter Olympics this year. This elevates watching the Olympic coverage to a whole new level!

It’s really special to be able to watch their progress on social media, and even more special to be able to message them directly at the Olympics.

One family has an ice skater at the Games and the other has a skier.

I have known both families for a number of years.

Throughout those years, I have witnessed the sacrifice, dedication and commitment required to produce an Olympian. Both families have moved down this path with massive commitment and faith. There are no guarantees in that rarefied air.

For most of us, we only get a glimpse of the struggle and dedication through an occasional highlight feature aired by the press. And these features only focus on the few athletes fortunate enough to become huge success stories. Little attention is paid to the thousands of others whose story did not end with the awe-inspiring victory and a medal around their neck.

The business world for the small business owner is very similar. To own and operate a small business in any field requires sacrifice, dedication, commitment and, frankly, guts.

Some small business owners, like a few Olympians, ascend to notable and highly visible successes, some go out of business completely, while a vast majority painfully struggle somewhere in between.

Unlike the Olympian, the business owner has more opportunity to be successful – if they know how. Like the Olympian, the road to success requires a plan, time, skill development and a coach.

The most important lesson for all of us from the Olympic games is to stay the course when things are tough. It is all a matter of time. Tough times don’t last forever.

This is where the 6-Figure Trainer program is rooted. We know what it takes to be successful. We’ve been there and done that. And you don’t have to take my word for it. Sign up for the complimentary consultation and see for yourself – without any obligation.

In the meantime, dream bigger and do the work regardless of the obstacles.

Do This to Build a Booming Fitness Business

I hope your Valentine’s Day was really nice.

Mine started earlier than usual this year because I, for once, had the foresight to get the flowers a day ahead of schedule. Needless to say, my little bit of extra effort was a surprise and a huge hit.

It’s a neat holiday because, at its core, it’s all about letting people know how much we truly care about them.

Isn’t that what we all really want?

Isn’t this what your members and clients really want? One of my favorite sayings is that “people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.”

Now it’s not really practical, and it really doesn’t make any sense, to buy all your clients and members flowers. 🙂

So how do you let them know how much you care?

The truth is there are lots of ways, and I have a favorite.

My favorite way to let my clients and members know how much I care about them, besides my day-to-day interactions, is to ask for their opinion on how we are doing.

Handled correctly, getting customer feedback is a win-win in all directions. You get priceless feedback that you can use to strengthen your programs even more. Those giving the feedback get the feeling that their voice, and their opinions, really matter.

But it needs to be handled the correct way.

After years of refining, my recommended plan is best explained in the short 2 minute video.

Everyone who has followed this plan has been rewarded with valuable insights and strengthened relationships with their customers.

Have fun with it and let me know the most important thing you experienced.

I was Mortified when I Read the Subject Line

I would rather not talk about this and simply let it go, but I can’t.

Since it is difficult to talk about, writing this email is equally, or more, difficult.

So why not just pick an easier topic and proceed with that? Because it needs to be addressed and we all experience it.

Here we go…Last week’s email had typos in the subject line and I was mortified when I saw them. Of course, my proofreading skills are 100% accurate after I have sent the email.

I take several steps to prevent me from making typo mistakes. (Proofing my own work is not my strength.) Most importantly, I hire a professional proofreader and I trust her work. Seldom do I change anything after she has returned an email.

Last week was an exception. I changed the subject and preview lines of the email because I thought they needed last-minute improvements. Of course, I thought I had it perfect and it was not until I saw the email in my inbox that I realized my errors.

A couple of lessons here. First, the email was good the way it was. In fact, it was much better than the final product with its glaring errors. Lesson: Good is good enough!

The second lesson is that sometimes things happen, like my typo mistakes. We have a choice. We can feel bad about our unexpected outcome or admit our humanness and move on.

I see this in the fitness world all the time. Owners and trainers that have to get things perfect before they implement a change. And situations where people become paralyzed because something they tried did not work out as expected and they hesitate to try again.

Take your 2018 goals for example. Are you on track for your big goals that you claimed in January? If not, why? Could you be waiting to get everything perfect or have you tried something and it hasn’t worked. If so, you are not alone. I see it all the time.

The solution is to take action knowing that perfection is the enemy and mistakes are inevitable, even necessary, if you intend to grow your business and follow your dreams.

Remember, it’s never too late, action creates the results you want.

One Simple and Critical Fitness Marketing Strategy

This is a free, once-a-week (Thursday), email with tips, tricks, hacks and strategies to grow your fitness business now!

Hello ~Contact.FirstName~,

Almost exactly 5 months ago I had an accident on my motorcycle.

With adrenaline filling my veins my veins, and numbing my brain, I immediately started doing things that, when looking back, were really stupid.

I was trying to fix the bike enough so I could ride it the 75 miles to get back home.

Really dumb on my part. As I learned later from a repair shop, the bike was completely totaled.

A few weeks before I had visited a local gym. They had added my name to their calling list for marketing purposes. When they called me right after my accident I explained that I was on crutches and would not be able to work out for a while.

They then called again about 3 weeks later. Guess why they called?

Drum roll……..

They called to see how my recovery was going! They were sincere and never asked when I would be able to come to the gym to start my free trial. They really wanted to know about my recovery.

I was stunned and very impressed. They did exactly what I teach my clients.

That is marketing at it’s very best. They demonstrated timely follow through that they genuinely cared about me, that they understood my situation, and I was just not another “number” to sell a membership to. If I was looking for a gym, they would go to the top of my list.

They were using a strategy to make follow-up calls, keep notes from those calls, and schedule a time for the next follow-up call. They had perfected a simple marketing system that was highly personalized.

This is not rocket science. It is the difference between a mediocre fitness business and a great fitness business. It’s what I teach.

What simple marketing system do you need to put in place? Need help or ideas? My contact information is at the bottom.
