This Happens Every Year

I returned home last night after 2,700 miles of riding on my Beemer. I was taking a partial break from my routine, and I was still working a little – remotely.

I was physically tired but very surprisingly energized. My energy centered on what I would like to see happen for the rest of 2017.

Last week I wrote about people taking a break in August and what you can do to take advantage of that natural trend. (I say it is a natural trend based on over 30 years of experience in the fitness industry.) You can read that post here.

I received a couple of calls this week and the callers were stressed that their prospects had disappeared and attendance in programs is really down right now. No surprise to me, I predicted it last week.

What to do about it became the focal point of our conversations. Keep in mind that most of these people will return, like I did, tired but re-energized about the rest of the year. In many cases this means getting back to their fitness goals in a couple of short weeks.

Will you be ready for this renewed interest and commitment?

If you get stuck having a pity party or being discouraged, it will come through in your conversations and it will turn people away. On the other hand, if you are consistently positive and encouraging, people will enthusiastically return to you when they are ready.

Follow these steps below to ensure that you have a great attitude and make the most of this annual opportunity.

Action Step #1 – Check your attitude. It is really easy to get discouraged at less than usual attendance. Even easier when your “hot” prospects seem to have a change of mind and go on vacation instead of buying your services. There are only two kinds of people in the world, your clients and your prospective clients. Remain positive and encouraging and your prospects will return to you as a person who understood and respected them.

Action Step #2 – Make a list. If your usual prospect list has temporarily dried up, it’s time to get more prospects. Start with making a list of 10 things you can do to build a big prospect list. Force yourself to come up with at least 10 things you could do. Then pick the top three things and begin working on them ASAP.

Action Step #3 – Take action on your list. Having trouble getting started on your #1 thing? Then make a list of ten things you could do to start working on that #1 thing right away. Then tackle one item at a time, finishing each one before moving on to the next thing. Makes notes of what you are doing and how you are doing it. We’ll use these notes later.
