Eliminating the Unnecessary

In the past six weeks I have been involved in a HUGE project.

I have been downsizing my life in every way possible. I have a lot of hobbies and interests, so this has turned out to be a monumental task.

What to keep, what to let go of… And the list goes on.

The reason for this downsizing is that it is time to follow a long-term dream of mine, which is to live a mobile lifestyle. It has been my dream to build my business, travel and enjoy this beautiful country all at the same time.

I could go on and on, but the quick summary is that this has turned into a huge project with lots of unexpected, and sometimes painful, decisions that have to be made.

Interestingly, my downsizing applies to this email. My consistent goal is to provide you with actionable strategies and techniques that you can implement immediately to grow your business. That will not change.

What needs downsizing and will change is the title of this series of email. I am dropping the “3-4 Thursday” lead in the subject line of the emails. It’s extra space that could be better utilized in a variety of ways. It currently does not serve a useful purpose and it’s time to go.

From here on out the subject line will relate to the most pertinent part of the email’s content. There will be no particular “title.”

What about you and your life? Could you and your business benefit from some downsizing? What needs downsizing to make you more successful. Yes, many times the extra baggage actually holds us back from reaching our goals and dreams. Why hold on to them if they are not serving you and helping you reach your goals?

To get started on this process is really quite easy. Make a list. I know that sounds familiar and somewhat simple, but it works. Make a list of those personal items you hang onto in spite of questioning their usefulness. Then start eliminating. It can be scary at first, but very freeing in the end.

Each thing that we hold on to requires a bit of our attention, even if we don’t think it does. It saps a part of our energy that could be better used for other things.

Try it for your personal life.  Next week I am going to write about the things that are holding you back in your business life. Stay tuned.

Remember, it’s never too late, action creates the results you want.

To your success!
